We all remember a moment in our life when we felt especially well in our own skin. But how to prolong that, how to make yourself feel good not only in some moments but in general? Here are a few universal tips on that.
1. Don’t let it break down, remember about the maintenance
It’s good to know how certain things influence your well-being. It’s always better to act before anything bad happens to your health than be sorry later. We, humans, generally work this way – most of our diseases develop over time. Often good care and frequent diagnostics can work wonders.
2. Important things, that help your organism, your daily rituals
We all remember being taught how to care about our organisms in early childhood. Having a good night’s sleep, maintaining proper hygiene, eating well (and smaller portions, but more frequently), drinking water throughout the day – all these can become your daily rituals – habits you barely notice, they become so natural for you. These are universal, but one should not stop pursuing finding the ones that suit your needs best.
3. Moving is living
Regular physical activity, in any form suitable for you, is always beneficial. Not everyone needs to be in the gym every day (actually overdoing sports is an actual threat to your well-being) but taking the stairs instead of riding the elevator every day or having a 30-minute stroll instead of driving is always a good idea. It’s also worth trying out a new sport discipline every once in a while, just for the sake of general development. During the pandemic, it became more of a challenge to be able to stay safe and be physically active at the same time, but it doesn’t mean we should stop trying!
4. Never underestimate the power of connecting with nature
Remember that Mother Nature is the common denominator for all living creatures. Find some time to step in the grass, take a walk on the beach, take a deep breath in the forest or somewhere you can really contemplate and be at peace. Sometimes it’s not even about learning, but simply allowing yourself to stop and experience the emotions you are feeling. Contact with animals also has a massive positive influence on our well-being – don’t cut on that, when possible.
5. Mental health is just as important as physical
Often, we don’t really think about this when this should actually be one of our priorities to take good care of our mental hygiene. Staying calm, developing good mental habits, finding space to accept yourself and be grateful are just a few general ideas helping us to live a better life. Be aware of the psychosomatic effects your mental state has on your physical health – longer periods of feeling down have a tremendous negative impact on the way your body works – don’t let that happen to you.
6. Have your space
It’s important to be able to have a safe space in which you can feel free to do whatever you want. A place where you can store all the objects you own and organize them in a way you find right and where you can simply be yourself. It’s also beneficial to call the places, where you felt good as ‘yours’ and have a vivid image of them in your memory so that you can get back to them later.
7. Don’t push away things that are important to you
Prioritizing tasks is a constant challenge in adult life. Try to think strategically when organizing your time, so that you don’t find yourself in a situation where you’ve lost an opportunity, that is unlikely to happen again. On another hand, don’t let responsibility weigh you down – it’s important to be balanced and make peace with your choices. Finding time for frequent self-reflection helps to understand our own needs better and having that data about yourself and what is important to you, helps a lot with decision-making.
8. Be close with the closest ones
It’s hard when you feel lonely, but nobody likes the feeling when you invest too many emotions into someone, who turns out to be not worthy of your attention. Reflect on the relationships in your life, be aware of the influence they have on you, and whether you treat them the way you feel you should. Try to get a broader perspective and focus on the people, who really make a difference in your life. Remember that being involved and devoting your time to someone are the best gifts you can give.
9. Accept yourself the way you are
You’ll never be able to feel good in your skin if you can’t find peace with who you are. We need to be best friends to ourselves because after all, this is who we spend the most time with. Feel like you should be more grateful for what you have already achieved and all the things that got you there? Most of us do. Accepting yourself is the best foundation you can possibly have to be able to develop your personality further, any way you want.
10. Don’t let your work take over your life
Especially during the pandemic, work-related hardships became a massive problem for many of us. Many businesses had to close; economic changes have made working more difficult for millions of people. But as always, it is not the case with everyone. Many felt liberated and were enabled to find a new career idea that changed their life for the better. Some started working remotely for different companies, some changed their professions, some added a new side job, that pays better.
